After seeing what there was to see on and near Lloret Beach, we got slushies from a vendor and decided to walk up the hill on Sa Caleta Cove, where the house-castle, Castell d’en Plaja, is located. On the way, we passed a sign indicating the area is for the entry and exit of vessels above another directing us not to feed the cats.

As we made our way up the hill the castle was on, this was the view over Sa Caleta Beach and Lloret Beach.

The water was a beautiful color.

We passed through a tunnel…

…and came out here.

I think this is looking back at the spot in the previous picture from higher up.

Here is another view.

Back down on the sidewalk, we passed a large anchor next to a plaque for the Special Olympics.

As we wandered Lloret, I saw this artwork on the wall of a building.

This police car reminded me of the Matthew Good song “Advertising on Police Cars,” but it turns out that website is actually for the police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra.

We returned to our friend’s room in the hotel for a little while before heading back out to go back to Panxos, where we had eaten when we came back from Barcelona. On the way, I saw a defibrillator on the sidewalk, which I thought was kind of random.

At the restaurant, I had the same thing as I’d had the day before, green chili enchiladas. I noticed this Speedy Gonzales.

After eating, we wandered around the city for a bit. Apparently there is a placed called I A place apparently called I photo 10441266_10102031463153560_7017728743062638033_n.jpg

I was a little surprised to see so much Duff Beer gear in this shop.

Toward the end of the day, we ended up killing time at the hotel’s restaurant where we sat outside. I also learned a few Spanish phrases on this trip, a few of them while at this restaurant. One was copa de hielo (a glass of ice) which I thought I would never use but then a friend asked me to ask for a glass of ice while she was gone. I also learned comida de menú (food menu) and el gusto (‘as you like it’). I don’t remember exactly what I ordered here, but I think it was lasagna.

We got food at the hotel restaurant while waiting to head back to Germany. I honestly can't even remember what this was...lasagna I think. At any rate, I couldn't finish it all... photo 10523361_10102031463437990_1161429732800712959_n.jpg

The trip back to Heidelberg was mostly uneventful except for some drawbacks. Someone had taken our original seats, so we got stuck sitting in the ones behind the stairs. That set of seats has a railing in front of them, which gave us less leg room. I was able to throw my legs over the railing, but it wasn’t that comfortable. I was also right in line to hear a baby on the lower level crying through the night. That’s just something that comes along with a trip with families, but it made the fact someone had swiped my original seat where I would have had some distance all the more aggravating.

We stopped for breakfast in France, and I thought I knew what their options were since they were just “simple” or “complete,” but it turns out their pronunciation of those words is different than I would have expected. “Complet” isn’t too far off our way of saying the latter word, but the former is pronounced more like “samp”. The breakfast was pretty terrible: a burnt egg on bread with ham and hash browns. I was a little surprised to see that there were no toilet seats at the stop, but I guess that is actually pretty common in France.

At one point the tour guide said that having a combined family and adult trip doesn’t work. I suppose it could depending on the destination, but I don’t think Lloret de Mar is really one of them. In addition to being a long bus ride from Germany, which can be miserable for adults and is probably more so for kids, the city itself just doesn’t scream family-friendly. I know the people with kids still found things to do (mostly related to being on the water or beach), but Lloret seems like the kind of destination that is ideal for college kids who want a beach destination that also offers plentiful bars and clubs and easy access to drugs. I kind of got the impression that it was the main destination due more to the accommodations being cheaper than anything else.

Overall I’m glad we went on the trip. I did have fun seeing some of the things there were to see in Lloret and Barcelona was, of course, awesome. However, if I returned to that part of Spain, I would just go directly to Barcelona (probably via car or airplane instead of a bus), and if I were to make a recommendation as to what someone else should do, that’s what I would recommend unless you are looking for the type of atmosphere that Lloret offers. There was just so much more to do and see in Barcelona. I would definitely like to go back to explore it some more some day.
